Steel Panther – A Glam-Metal Party for the Ages

Review and Images by Carla Shields

Steel Panther brought their signature glam-metal carnival and comedy show to the Mercury Ballroom in Louisville, delivering a night of shredding riffs, outrageous humor, and pure 80’s nostalgia. From the first note, the energy was electric, and the band’s comedic banter kept the crowd laughing between every song. But before Steel Panther took the stage fans were blown away by The Violent Hour, the brand new band for front woman Carla Harvey, formerly of Butcher Babies.

The Violent Hour delivered an incredible performance playing songs off the new self-titled EP, including “Sick Ones”, “Hell or Hollywood” and “Nice Girls Don’t Play Rock N Roll.”  They blend classic hard rock with a modern edge and Carla Harvey’s powerhouse vocals. The audience was captivated by the first riff and the band’s energy on stage was incredible. If you are a fan of female fronted, powerhouse vocals, and hard-hitting rock The Violent Hour is a band you need to check out.

After the face melting performance by The Violent Hour and a quick stage changeover it was time to hop in the time machine and be transported back to the decade of excess known as the 80’s. The house lights dimmed and the crowd roared in anticipation. Then the stage lights illuminated in hues of red, yellow, purple and blue as Steel Panther took the stage to a near sell out crowd.

Michael Starr’s vocals were on point, soaring through fan favorites like “Eyes of a Panther”, “Gloryhole”, and “Death to All But Metal.” Satchel unleashed blistering guitar solos, while Spyder and Stix Zadinia held down the groove with precision. The Mercury Ballroom’s intimate setting made the experience feel personal and loud—perfect for Steel Panther’s over-the-top vibe.

Steel Panther is known for inviting audience members on stage—a Steel Panther tradition that never fails to entertain. On this night one of the fans brought a sign inviting Steel Panther to a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to get them to play “Fat Girl.” Satchel accepted the challenge and after five rounds of Rock, Paper, Scissors the fan won and they brought her up on stage to sing “Fat Girl.”

From outrageous jokes to spontaneous fan sing-alongs, every moment felt like an old school 80’s party with big hair, leather and leopard print skin tight pants, and girls shaking what their momma gave them.

The audience was all in—singing, headbanging, and laughing at the band’s outrageous jokes.  Steel Panther transformed the venue into a full-blown glam-metal night of 80’s nostalgia. Fans left grinning, voices hoarse, and hearts pounding from the nonstop energy.

If you love glam metal and comedy, this is a must see band. Steel Panther proved once again why they’re the kings of rock comedy—tight musicianship, big laughs, and a vibe that screamed “party like it’s 1987.”
