Morris Day and the Time deliver nothing but fun and good vibes in Kentucky with Hip Hop legends Tag Team!
It’s a glorious evening in the Commonwealth of Kentucky as The 119th Kentucky State Fair rolls into its opening weekend. The Kentucky State Fair is an 11-day celebration of the Commonwealth’s history, heritage and culture features exhibits, livestock, food, rides, entertainment, and concerts, as well as the 120th World’s Championship Horse Show. Amid the Donut burgers, livestock exhibits, Midway and carnival rides the State Fair features a stacked concert series line-up sponsored by Texas Roadhouse.
At a touch past 9PM the house lights dropped around the Texas Roadhouse Concert stage, and everyone was immediately on their feet as ‘What Time is it Louisville?” came blasting over the loudspeakers. Of course, everyone knew what Time it was as Morris Day and the Time came bounding on stage. Kicking off their set with “Get It Up”, “Cool” and “Pandemonium” and the Friday night party was in full swing. The crowd was clearly having a grand time as they were dancing in the aisles and singing right along with Morris Day all evening.
About midway through the set there was a nice video tribute to Prince which showcased several candid pictures of Prince and Morris Day followed by a rousing rendition of Prince’s “D.M.S.R.”. The fun never let up as several women from the crowd were invited on stage to dance and have some fun during “If the Kid Can’t Make You Come” and “Ice Cream Castles”. Morris Day and The Time’s two biggest hits closed out a fun and very positive evening at the Kentucky State Fair as high energy renditions “The Bird” and “Jungle Love” finished the evening – leaving everyone happy and thoroughly satisfied. Do your self a favor, if Morros Day and the Time are in your area in the near future, buy the ticket and go to the show!
On stage tonight with Morris Day were longtime friend and drummer Jellybean Johnson, guitarist Torrell “Tori” Ruffin, bassist Ricky “Freeze” Smith, valet and percussionist Sylvester Donald Jr, Andre “PaDre” Holmes and Christopher Troy on keyboards/backing vocals.
Atlanta Based Hip Hop Legends Tag Team started the evening off in a great way with a fun and lively set. Tag Team is a duo, made up of Cecil Glenn (DC the Brain Supreme) and Steve Gibson (Steve Rolln) and in the early 1990’s broke stereotypes about the hip-hop genre by demonstrating that there is more to hip-hop than inflammatory lyrics. Tag Team closed their set with their legendary hit “Whoomp! (There It Is)” that had everyone on their feet, everyone singing and dancing.
