The Moon City Masters’ retro vibe shines bright on their debut EP The Famous Moon City Masters
Review by Ike Thomas
The Moon City Masters, a.k.a. Jordan and Talor Steinberg, come out strong with their third release, the full length album titled The Famous Moon City Masters.
The first song, “Takin’ It Back”, does exactly as its title says, opening the album with a perfectly floppy kick drum and tambourine beat followed by tight guitar and bass grooves that proceed to lay down what would’ve been the greatest 70’s cop show theme song ever. Next, kick in the powerful vocals, turn up the volume, and dig it.
The groove stays strong throughout the entire album. Skilled musicianship, complex arrangements, and tons of funk will keep the listener bouncing along. Their skillful use of rhythm changes and multiple instrumentation keep the songs extremely engaging.
A perfect example of their fine song craft is the third number, “Draw The Line”, which opens with some lovely guitar harmonics and transitions into a bouncy, upbeat chorus section, only later to rip into a romping, stomping guitar solo section and eventually resolving back.
“Send It On” is a certified proper road song perfect for any driving enthusiast with a pumping beat and wide chorus. Filled with impressive harmonies and musical soul it’s seemingly best enjoyed on an open road under clear skies and bright sunshine.

Further down the list my ears were greeted with the familiar opening guitar riff of the Beatle’s “I’ve Got a Feeling”. Putting their Moon City Master magic on this classic works to perfection and is undoubtedly destined to become a live show favorite.
Strong from start to finish The Famous Moon City Masters is a well recorded and mixed album that lands comfortably on the ears. Written with lyrics that speak directly to the listener and filled with intricate instrumentation I found this album continued to grow on me with multiple listens.
The Moon City Masters would indeed appear to be masters at taking a nostalgic sound and putting their fun, unique modern day sound on it. It’s tons of fun(k).

About The Moon City Masters:
The Moon City Masters are a neo-classic rock band with a contemporary edge and more than a hint of soul and funk. The band, consisting of twin brothers, Jordan and Talor Steinberg, brings together the whole package, with virtuosic playing and singing combined with excellent songcraft and an aesthetic that is all their own. It’s the unique MCM vibe that makes outlets like Classic Rock Magazine say that their music is full of “heart, harmonies and rays of California sunshine.” Ever since they first picked up their instruments at the tender age of 12 after their dad took them to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the brothers have been cranking out riffs and tunes with preternatural ability.
Initially, they both picked up guitars, but Jordan soon switched to bass. Over the course of the next several years, they honed their singing and playing chops to a fine edge. The band kicked their songwriting into overdrive when they started working with Grammy-nominated producer Justin Craig. The band released their debut E.P., The Adventures of the Moon City Masters in late 2019. Since then, they’ve been hard at work recording and releasing singles. They will be playing dates around the country as the world opens up again. They can’t wait to see you there.
