Solar Flare at Thompson House in Newport, KY 20-NOV-21

Solar Flare invades Kentucky for a fiery album release show with friends Before the Day, Unrivaled and Feral Friends.

With Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping behind us, what better way to spend a holiday Saturday night than taking some awesome local Cincinnati-based metal and rock music.  This evening’s agenda was highlighted by Solar Flare’s long-awaited album release show for the band’s highly anticipated self-titled debut album! Walking up to the Thompson House on this chilly evening, you could feel the excitement and the overall positive vibe of this special evening.

With the Covid pandemic delaying the release show/celebration of their album (The album release was officially released May 23, 2020), the band pulled out all the stops to make the evening unforgettable. Perched high above the drum riser sat a huge, illuminated dragon, and a high-tech laser light show further accented the stage viewing experience.

Performance-wise, Solar Flare rolled through a fierce set performing their new album in its entirety. Featuring searing guitar riffs from lead guitarist Garian Perry along with support from Codi Davis and the ever-soaring vocals from Ethan Jackson (along with bassist Michael “Fish” Fisher and drummer Jon Owens) Solar Flare owned the evening with an over the top performance.

As a little “extra” surprise for those out to support all the bands this evening Solar Flare’s 2 song encore set included a rousing rendition of Dio’s “Don’t Talk to Strangers before ending the evening with a blistering rendition of Iron Maiden’s Hallowed Be Thy Name.

Providing the main support this evening was southern Ohio-based Hard rockers Before the Day. Tonight’s set was the band’s first show back since January of 2020 and they were clearly ready to go! During their almost hour-long set, Before the Day rolled out their new song “Halo” along with a couple of surprise covers including Journey’s “Separate Ways” and Prince’s “When Doves Cry”.

Next in the performance order was Cincinnati-based Unrivaled. Playing a number of songs from their recently released EP, Ghost Stories, Unrivaled’s set was hot and fast right from the start.

Opening the show were the Cincinnati Three-piece Feral Friends. Setting the tone for the entire evening, Feral Friends opened their time on stage with “F@@K” and never stopped rocking during a fun and lively set.

The evening was a perfect showcase for some of the outstanding local Cincinnati rock/heavy metal music and an album release show that was well worth the wait!
