Geoff Tate at The Blue Note in Harrison, OH 17-SEP-21

Geoff Tate scorches Ohio with a scintillating evening of legendary music along with Kurt Deimer and  Sweet Sister Mercy.

Rollback time a bit, to the start of 2020. Legendary frontman, Geoff Tate had announced a long coast-to-coast US tour performing two of the more important albums of the 80’s, Rage for Order and Empire. When the Covid-10 Pandemic abruptly shut down live music performances, Geoff Tate and the guys were just finishing a rousing show in Louisville, KY at the Mercury Ballroom.  Little did anyone know what the next 12-16 months would hold but … Fans patience paid off as Geoff announced an expansive cross-country tour of rescheduled shows which are some of the hottest tickets around right now.

Walking up to the venue you could feel that tonight was going to be a good one, there were cars parked everywhere and on the patio area Cincinnati local Sweet Sister Mercy, were getting ready to kick off the evening’s festivities.  For almost 45 minutes, Sweet Sister Mercy rolled through a lively set of 80’s and 90’s covers which included Dokken, Poison, and Whitesnake – From their FB page, Sweet Sister Mercy puts the Rock in your Roll and they did just that!

Providing the main support this evening was Kurt Deimer along with guitarist Phil Xenidis – p/k/a Phil X. Playing most of their upcoming EP (to be released in October) Kurt Diemer, rocked through a great set that closed with his new single “Burn Together” which left the venue buzzing. The “Burn Together” single, released a couple of months ago features vocals by Mr. Geoff Tate.

The vibe in The Blue Note was electric as the final on-stage preparations were being completed and everyone seemed to push towards the stage. A huge ovation greeted Geoff Tate as he casually sauntered onto the stage and straight into “Walk in the Shadows” and “I Dream in Infrared”.  As many artists are celebrating milestone anniversaries of some of the most iconic albums of their careers, it’s an absolute treat for fans to experience Rage for Order and Empire, in album order and in their entirety.

Geoff took a brief minute to address the crowd, explaining that The Rage For Order album came out in ’86 and this year marks the 35th anniversary of the album release. He goes on “the only reason I’m doing Rage For Order is because I want to. It’s been a bucket list item for me, so thanks for helping me empty my bucket list.” Geoff finished up the Rage For Order album with “Screaming in Digital” and “I Will Remember” to a great ovation.

After a 20 minute intermission, Geoff was back on stage a full performance of The Empire Album.

Empire was Queensrÿche’s fourth full-length studio album which was released on August 20, 1990. The album stands as Queensrÿche’s most commercially successful release, reaching triple-platinum status, and the primary single, the power ballad “Silent Lucidity”, reached number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks.

For the next 60+ minutes, Geoff Tate and the guys tore through the Empire album in a precise and purposeful manner with the crowd singing every song with the same intensity and energy that was pouring from the stage.  Standing in the thick of everything with Geoff Tate standing on stage, only a few feet from me and everyone around me singing “Silent Lucidity” with passion and meaning was unforgettable.

Geoff wrapped up the evening treating fans with a couple of bonus songs, “Last Time in Paris” and “Take Hold of the Flame” putting a giant exclamation point on an awesome evening of music. Geoff and the band couldn’t have sounded better and If you have an opportunity to catch this show on an upcoming tour stop, don’t miss it!

Onstage, with Geoff Tate on this tour is guitarist Kieran Robertson, guitarist Alex Hart, bassist Jack Ross, and drummer Daniel Laverde.
