Thunderstruck delivers a wickedly good time to enthusiastic Lexington fans with The Sedonas.
It’s crazy how things work out sometimes and how good things actually do happen to good people. The Mid-West’s premier AC/DC tribute band, Thunderstruck: America’s AC/DC Tribute band is a prime example of how blending the right ingredients, delivering a true, honest rock and roll experience mixed in with tons of sacrifice and hard work can deliver magic!
Starting a little more than 4 years ago, a group of Louisville, So. Indiana and Florida musicians started following their dream of playing music and having a good time. Their musical focus is AC/DC, a cornerstone of Rock n’ Roll, while covering everything from the Bon Scott era all the way through the Brian Johnson era (none of that Axl stuff in this set). Thunderstruck is not a band that’s attempting to be a copy of AC/DC, they more than succeed in keeping the AC/DC spirit alive while striving to stay true to the AC/DC persona.
As the final stage preparations are completed there is a buzz in the air. Bookmarking the stage are two large canons, clearly ready to shoot when “For Those About to Rock, (We Salute You)” comes up in the setlist along with a huge golden bell emblazoned with the AC/DC logo to be rung for “Hell’s Bells”. With the overhead speakers blasting the bass-heavy “Are You Ready” the guys take their places on stage greeted by a huge roar. Without missing a beat “Thunderstruck,” “Shoot to Thrill,” and “Back in Black” come roaring from the stage in rapid-fire succession and the night is off to a fast start.
Over the next 2 hours, Thunderstruck rolls through a myriad of AC/DC hits including “T.N.T,” Highway to Hell,” “Dirty Deeds” and my all-time personal favorite “If You Want Blood,” all with an energy and a passion that pours from the stage. Lead singer Dave Moody is impressive, hitting those classic screeching notes everyone has come to love. Bringing the sounds and mannerisms of Angus Young to the stage, complete with the schoolboy uniform, guitarist Corey Beatz hits every note with precision while engaging with the amped-up crowd all night long. Longtime band member Chris Jones on bass along with Kevin Feller on rhythm guitar and Jerry Lawson on drums provide the backing rhythm section, delivering a never-ending supply of power chords through the set.
With the evening winding down Dave Moody rhetorically asks, “Have we had a good time at the rock n roll show?” The answer being a resounding yes!!! “It’s a privilege and honor to pay tribute to the greatest Rock n’ Roll band in the world,” he says before ending their main set with the aforementioned “For Those About to Rock, (We Salute You).”
Whatever they are doing, it’s working as the guys have traveled from Coast to coast in 2019 playing more than 100 shows along the way. The evening is nothing but a good time from the word go and if you haven’t experienced a show yet, you are missing out in a major way.
