Maggie Rose Lights up Louisville with Them Vibes and Hiking
It’s a wonderful Friday night in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. It seems those in the know knew the place to be was Zanzabar to catch Nashville based Vocalist/Songwriter Maggie Rose do what she does best. Things couldn’t be going much better for Maggie Rose, touring in support of her critically acclaimed album Change The Whole Thing and on the heels of her national TV debut on NBC’s ‘TODAY’ SHOW on Tuesday, Louisville fans didn’t miss an opportunity to see her perform live in their own back yard.
As the house lights drop one by one Them Vibes (Maggie’s band for the evening) along with guitarist Tom Maxwell take their places on stage. Without any delay, Maggie Rose bounds on stage, greeted by a nice ovation and straight into the opening song from “Do Right By My Love” followed by “I’m Yours’” and the title track from the new album “Change the Whole Thing”.
Now that the opening jitters are gone, and everyone is settled in Maggie and Them Vibes keep the good time going, immediately rolling into a soulful Aretha Franklin cover of “Baby I Love You” before going back to the Change The Whole Thing album with “Magic Man,“ “Long Way To Go” and “Hey Blondie” coming in rapid-fire succession.
The vibe in the room was electric and Maggie and the band were really soaking it all in as she announces ”You guys are a really sexy crowd, here is a sexy song for you all” as the seductive “Body On Fire” is next, followed by a song about love “Pull You Through” and a rousing cover of the Box Tops hit “The Letter” that really showcased Maggie’s incredible range and vocals.
Taking a minute to thank everyone in the room for coming out and supporting their music and to explain what it means to be able to perform for everyone, Maggie continues “I can’t explain how special the opportunity was to share “It’s You” on the ‘Today Show’ earlier in the week,” followed by a stirring rendition of this popular song. Maggie, Tom, and Them Vibes close out the evening with a bang. First comes a rocking cover of Rod Stewart’s “Do You Think I’m Sexy” followed by “Smooth” before ending with her brand new single “Right On!” which was recorded with Them Vibes.
Shortly after the set, it was great to see Maggie at the merch table meeting everyone and anyone who wanted to come by. It was a great finishing touch to what was a fantastic evening.
Providing the main support this evening (and as it turns out Maggie Rose’s band for the evening)
Them Vibes is Alex Haddad, Larry Florman (Brother Love), Kyle Lewis, Judd Fuller, and Sarah Tomek.
It’s always a treat to see local bands performing with the touring bands, tonight it was Louisville’s own Hiking with an all too short set to start the night off. Their set included their original song “Coloured Glass” as well a cover of Cindi Lauper’s “Time After Time”
